From mist-covered mountains to turquoise island waters — explore India's most breathtaking destinations by region.
🏛 Golden Triangle — Delhi, Agra & Jaipur. India's most visited circuit links three extraordinary cities across a triangle in the northwest. Delhi balances 800 years of Mughal and colonial history — the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb and the vast Jama Masjid all within a single city. Agra is home to the Taj Mahal — the world's most recognised building, a white marble poem built by a Mughal emperor for his wife. Nearby Agra Fort reveals the opulence of the Mughal court. Jaipur — the Pink City — dazzles with the Amber Fort, the Hawa Mahal and one of India's best bazaars for textiles, gems and handicrafts.
🏰 Rajasthan — The Land of Kings. Rajasthan is India's most dramatically beautiful state — a land of desert forts, painted havelis, camel safaris and lakes reflecting fairy-tale palaces. Udaipur — the City of Lakes — is built around shimmering Lake Pichola with the Lake Palace Hotel floating at its centre. Jodhpur's blue-washed old city is dominated by the colossal Mehrangarh Fort. Jaisalmer rises from the Thar Desert as a golden sandstone citadel still inhabited after 850 years. Pushkar sits around a sacred lake visited by thousands of pilgrims and home to one of the world's greatest annual camel fairs.
🌴 Kerala — God's Own Country. Kerala is India's most lush and verdant state — a narrow coastal strip of coconut palms, spice estates, misty hill stations and serene backwater lagoons. The backwaters around Alleppey and Kumarakom are best experienced from a traditional rice barge houseboat drifting through a network of canals, lakes and rivers. Munnar's tea plantations blanket rolling highland hills in an endless emerald carpet. The beaches of Kovalam and Varkala offer cliff-top cafés, golden sands and calm Arabian Sea waters. Kochi's Fort Kochi neighbourhood preserves Dutch, Portuguese and British colonial layers alongside ancient Chinese fishing nets still in use.
🛕 Tamil Nadu — Land of Temples. Tamil Nadu is the spiritual heartland of South India — a state of soaring Dravidian temple towers (gopurams), classical Bharatanatyam dance, fragrant jasmine markets and ancient civilisation. The Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai is one of Asia's most spectacular religious complexes — a city within a city, its towers encrusted in thousands of painted deities. Mahabalipuram holds UNESCO World Heritage Shore Temple rock carvings by the Bay of Bengal. Mysore's Maharaja's Palace is one of India's most visited monuments. Hampi — across the border in Karnataka — is a breathtaking ruined capital of the Vijayanagara Empire spread across a boulder-strewn landscape.
🐯 Wildlife — Tigers, Elephants & Beyond. India is one of the world's premier wildlife destinations — home to the Bengal tiger, Asiatic elephant, one-horned rhinoceros, snow leopard, Indian leopard and hundreds of bird species. Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan is India's most famous tiger reserve, offering jeep and canter safaris through ruined Mughal forts teeming with wildlife. Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand is the country's oldest national park. Kaziranga in Assam protects two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinoceros population. Kerala's Periyar reserve offers boat safaris on a lake surrounded by herds of elephants.
Travel experts weigh in — here's our honest guide to the best time to visit India.
Shoulder Season Best Value
October to March is the prime travel window across most of India. North India is cool and comfortable for sightseeing. South India is dry along the west coast after the monsoon retreats. Wildlife parks are fully open and game viewing is at its best as animals congregate around water sources. This is India's golden travel season.
High Demand Periods
Christmas and New Year attract high demand — hotels book out months in advance and prices surge. Diwali (October–November) and Holi (March) are magical times to visit India culturally, but transport and accommodation fill quickly. Book at least 3–4 months ahead for these windows.
Weather Warning
The southwest monsoon sweeps across India from June to September — drenching both the north and south. Outdoor sightseeing becomes difficult, roads can flood, and some national parks close entirely. Kerala's east coast is the exception — it is drier during this period. We'd rather tell you honestly than take your booking.
